“Don’t allow overfamiliarity to take over your quality relationship with people. No matter how close I am to people, I will never disrespect them.”

Amb. Odidi Godday Aguriase (OGA) has emphasized the importance of maintaining respect, boundaries and professionalism in every relationship, regardless of how close people may become.

According to him, familiarity should never become an excuse for disrespect, careless communication or taking people for granted. A strong relationship is not measured only by how comfortable people are with one another, but also by the level of mutual respect, understanding and value they continue to maintain.

Overfamiliarity can sometimes make people forget the importance of boundaries. When this happens, trust can gradually be damaged and relationships that once created opportunities for growth can become sources of conflict and disappointment.

OGA believes that whether dealing with friends, colleagues, business partners, mentors, leaders or associates, respect must remain constant. Being close to someone should give you greater understanding of their personality, not permission to disregard their dignity.

“No matter how close to people, I won’t disrespect them,” he maintains, stressing that professionalism and good character should remain at the foundation of every meaningful relationship.

In a world where relationships often determine access to opportunities, partnerships and personal development, cultivating quality relationships is essential. People should learn to appreciate those around them without becoming excessively familiar to the point of losing discipline and respect.

True greatness is built when relationships, professionalism, humility and mutual respect work together. The ability to remain respectful even when you have become very close to someone demonstrates maturity, wisdom and strong character.

For OGA, the message is clear: Build relationships, nurture trust, value people, but never allow familiarity to destroy respect. Great relationships should inspire growth, create opportunities and foster greatness—not become a reason for disrespect.
