Dr. Oladipupo Wilson Diriwari has declared that he is well-prepared to contest the 2027 House of Representatives election for Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, calling on other candidates to come forward for a public debate centred on their records, achievements, ideas and plans for the constituency.
Diriwari, a lawyer and community figure who has been adopted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ajeromi-Ifelodun as its consensus candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives contest, said the forthcoming election should be about competence, accessibility, accountability and measurable service to the people.
According to him, Ajeromi-Ifelodun needs leaders who understand the realities of the constituency and are prepared to remain accessible to the people after elections.
“We need credible leaders in power. Let other candidates come out for public debate and tell the people what they have achieved, what they have done for the people and what they intend to do if allowed to represent the constituency.”»
“I Have Political Experience Beyond Party Lines”
Diriwari said his political journey did not begin with his present ambition. He explained that he was previously a full member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where, according to reports from his own account, he served as Legal Adviser and was a member of the State Central Working Committee before later moving to the PDP.
He said his political experience across different political platforms has given him an understanding of the importance of leadership, organisation, grassroots engagement and public service.
Diriwari has also said he was involved in politics from the era of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) and later participated in the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and APC. He has also described previous public-service roles, including vice chairman and supervisory councillor positions in Lagos Island Local Government.
“Ajegunle Is My Home”
A major part of Diriwari’s message is his connection to Ajegunle and Ajeromi-Ifelodun.
He has repeatedly stated that he was born and raised in the constituency and understands the struggles, aspirations, and challenges confronting residents.
“I grew up in Ajegunle. I know this place. I know the people, and I understand the environment. My ambition is not simply about occupying a seat at the National Assembly; it is about using representation to deliver meaningful value to the people.”
His educational and community interventions have also featured prominently in his public profile. In April 2026, The Nation and Tribune Online reported that, through the OWD Foundation, he supported students in Ajeromi-Ifelodun with JAMB registration and that the wider programme had also covered WAEC and GCE registration for beneficiaries over several years.
Tolu Schools: “I Fought to Protect the Community’s Educational Interest”
Diriwari has also cited his involvement in the long-running Tolu Schools controversy as part of his record of community advocacy.
According to his account, he joined the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in challenging an attempt to convert the Tolu public-school land for commercial housing development. He has stated that the matter went through the courts and that the community ultimately prevailed at the Supreme Court.
Recent reports by The Sun and Independent Newspaper Nigeria also carried his account of the legal battle, including his assertion that the school was the only public school serving the immediate area at the time.
For Diriwari, the episode represents an example of the kind of community advocacy he believes should be associated with public leadership.
“I Am Ready to Deliver”
Diriwari has promised that, if elected, his representation would focus on practical interventions rather than political rhetoric.
“I am ready to deliver on my promises if elected as the House of Representatives member for Ajeromi-Ifelodun. The people deserve representation that they can feel and access.”
He has argued that leadership should go beyond temporary assistance and focus on creating sustainable opportunities. In previous remarks reported by The Sun and Independent, he said governance should emphasise permanent empowerment and systems capable of improving people’s living standards.
“It Is Not About the Party Alone”
While campaigning on the PDP platform, Diriwari said voters should look beyond party labels when assessing candidates.
“PDP in Ajegunle is prepared for the elections. But it is not about the party alone. People should look at the person they want to represent them. Cast your vote for someone whom you can access easily and who understands the problems of the constituency.”
His message places emphasis on accessibility and accountability, suggesting that elected representatives should maintain a direct relationship with constituents rather than disappear after securing electoral mandates.
A Call for Public Debate
As the 2027 election approaches, Diriwari’s call for a public debate introduces a focus on candidates’ records and proposed programmes.
He wants contenders to appear before the people, explain their previous achievements, answer questions about their understanding of Ajeromi-Ifelodun, and present clear plans for education, youth development, employment, infrastructure, security, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
For Diriwari, the central question is not simply who belongs to which political party, but who can provide accessible and accountable representation.
“I am prepared. Let other candidates come out. Let us debate our achievements, our records and our plans before the people. Let the people listen to everyone and make their decision.”
With the 2027 election approaching, the contest for the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency seat is expected to generate increased political activity, with candidates and parties seeking to convince voters through their records, programmes and campaign messages.
