The Chief Executive Officer of M7 Petroleum Services Nigeria Limited and M7 Autogas Limited, Chief John Okorie, also known as M7, has joined the Nigerian business community in commemorating World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. He urged the Federal and State governments to prioritize the needs of seniors above 60.
Nigeria will continue to grapple with endemic corruption due to the lack of provision and attention to the elderly. This is why many elderly individuals remain in positions of power, as their welfare is often neglected.
It is a universal aspiration to experience old age with dignity and happiness, rather than struggling with poverty and abandonment.
In developed nations, the elderly receive adequate attention, but in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, the elderly often suffer if they fail to invest in their lives or families.
Chief Okorie appealed to the government to allocate resources for the elderly, ensuring they are not abused when they are no longer able to work and support themselves.
He shared his personal experience, saying, “I have an aged father who has worked hard for his family. As his children, we take care of him in his old age.”
