The Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448, commenced officially on June 16, 2026. This date marks 1,448 lunar years since the Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina.
The start of Muharram—the first month in the Islamic lunar calendar-was confirmed after the sighting of the crescent moon.
As the Hijrah calendar follows lunar cycles, which are shorter than the Gregorian year, the date shifts by approximately 11 days each year.
If you are interested in learning more about Islamic dates, historical conversions, or local community events planned for this sacred month, please do not hesitate to inquire.
I can also assist with converting your upcoming Gregorian dates into the Hijri format if required.
I would like to urge Muslims to remain faithful and peace-loving towards one another in Nigeria, regardless of their religion or tribe.
