Celebrating a Creative Icon, Publisher and Producer Who Has Shaped Nigerian Entertainment
Chief John Okorie has joined family members, friends, colleagues and admirers across Nigeria and beyond in celebrating veteran Nigerian publisher, cartoonist and television producer, Chief Wale Adenuga, MFR, as he marks his 76th birthday anniversary.
Born on September 24, 1950, Wale Adenuga has built a remarkable career spanning publishing, cartooning, television and film production. He is widely associated with popular productions including Papa Ajasco, Super Story, Binta and Friends and Ikebe Super.
Chief John Okorie described Wale Adenuga as a creative force whose contributions have left an enduring mark on Nigeria’s entertainment and media landscape. Through his storytelling and production work, Adenuga has entertained generations while demonstrating the importance of creativity, innovation and consistency in building sustainable media brands.
One of his most recognised creations, Papa Ajasco, began as a film in the 1980s before becoming a television series. Wale Adenuga Productions states that it produced Papa Ajasco in 1983 as Nigeria’s first English-language comedy film, while the television series later became a major part of Nigerian popular culture.
His creative journey also demonstrates the power of transforming ideas across different media platforms. Characters and stories that originated in print were subsequently developed for television, helping to create programmes that became familiar to Nigerian audiences. Adenuga has also been associated with Super Story, another long-running Nigerian television production.
Chief John Okorie particularly celebrates Adenuga’s ability to combine creativity with enterprise. Beyond entertainment, his career has contributed to the development of media production, talent development and opportunities for professionals working within Nigeria’s creative industry.
As he clocks 76, Chief John Okorie wishes Chief Wale Adenuga, MFR, continued good health, wisdom, fulfilment and many more years of meaningful contributions to society.
He also congratulates the Adenuga family, colleagues and the entire Wale Adenuga Productions family on this special milestone, celebrating a man whose name has become closely associated with Nigerian storytelling, humour and television entertainment.
Happy 76th Birthday Anniversary, Chief Wale Adenuga, MFR.
May the years ahead bring greater fulfilment, renewed creativity and lasting impact.
